I received this book as part of the Friends of AK Press plan (something anyone interested in AK Press books should look into). It is a classic book on, of course, workers' councils. What makes it interesting is the author's views on the history of capitalism, Nazi Germany, communism and socialism (anarchism is even touched upon)/5.

Given the great importance of these canons of the ancient ecumenical councils, what precisely do they say and mean. What was the intention of their authors, the fathers of those councils.

With the present work, His Eminence Archbishop Peter (L'Huillier) has given the English-speaking world authoritative answers to such questions.

After providing an historical overview of each of 5/5(1). The good: convenient to have introductions to the first seven ecumenical councils in one recent work.

The bad: given the author is a Catholic and Jesuit one does expect sympathy with the Roman narratives - however in this case the author, ignoring all the recent great work by the Popes and Catholics worldwide towards reconciliation and closer Christian unity brushes aside /5(47).

A works council or work council is a shop-floor organization representing workers that functions as a local/firm-level complement to trade unions but is independent of these at least in some countries.

Works councils exist with different names in a variety of related forms in a number of European countries, including Britain (joint consultative committee or employees’ council). Today I am beginning a new series of articles on the seven ecumenical councils of the early church.

These councils commenced with the First Council of Nicaea in and concluded with the Second Council of Nicaea in Between these two events were five more, each of which attempted to understand and establish a unified Christian theology. The book contains a few sample documents and standing orders, which are the internal rules for a council.

This book is easy to read and is recommended for anyone with an interest in councils. It will really help those who work in or with councils. Local Councils Explained was written in ; there have been some new legislation since then.

The three Divine Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit weas defined in Councils. Even the old differences detween believers and the jewish sinagogue can be understood better by reading some of the definitions of the first seven Ecumenical Councils.

This book is a valuable tool for Seminarians, Pastors, Teachers, Sunday School teachers, Evangelists.5/5(5). T he Book of Acts in the Bible, written around A.D., may be best described as a history of the founding and growth of the early church. While there are some areas of great detail of the Acts of the Apostles, many times you must use cross references to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as well as some other epistles in the New Testament to get the full picture of.

The first four ecumenical councils came to have a particular authority: Nicea (A.D. ), Constantinople (), Ephesus (), and Chalcedon ().

The work of the councils was twofold. Matters of faith and doctrine were always of predominant concern, and doctrinal definitions were issued as creeds, or "symbols" of faith. Counseling with our Councils by M. Russell Ballard teaches the reader the principles of collaboration and consensus building.

The principles can be used by anyone in any setting. The book is an easy read with inspiration and motivation throughout/5. Counsels on Sabbath School Work incorporates the instruction by Ellen G.

The re-publication of Pannekoek's classic book Workers' Councils then, is a welcome correction. That said, there are serious problems with this edition of the book, which obscure the value of Pannekoek's work. Readers unfamiliar with Pannekoek may be surprised with the content of Workers Councils.
